Brillant Remodel !

The kitchen was small and in desperate need of expanding. There was also a stair case leading into it which took up much more space than we wanted. We sealed off the entrance to the stairs leaving the other side for access up and down the stairway. We also created a pass-through window which allowed for more interaction between guests and homeowner. The before picture will show this was all closed off. The porcelain flooring in herringbone style give this kitchen a new definition. The style and workmanship that went into creating this space is impeccable. We hope you like it! Dekton is coming!

Have you heard about Silestone’s newest edition to their innovative family? They are calling it Dekton. Dekton slabs have zero porosity, a consequence of the sinterization and ultra-compaction process exclusive to DEKTON. This zero porosity and lack of the micro-defects that cause tension or weak spots mark the difference as far as DEKTON is concerned.

The slabs are large and light which creates new possibilities for different kitchen, bathroom and/or fireplace designs. They are even book matched so you can put two identical pieces side by side on your walls for an artistic marble appearance. At you can see all the advantages to using this material. It is scratch proof, stain proof, and also heat proof. The possibilities are endless with this creation, as well as timeless. Even we are putting this into our showroom! It’s just too good not to show off. With so many variations in colors and contrast how can you go wrong?

April fools! Lets talk Cabinet Types.

Stock Cabinets

Stock cabinets are preassembled or ready-to-assemble cabinets that are available at most home centers and cabinet discount stores. Manufacturers and dealers keep a selection of stock cabinets in inventory, so they are ready for delivery on ordering. If the cabinets you choose require delivery from the manufacturer or warehouse, it may take a few weeks to receive your order. Typically constructed of engineered wood and steel-sided drawers in standard sizes, the options are limited. While stock cabinets can be finished, cabinet boxes are usually made of less expensive material than the fronts of the cabinets. Some manufacturers offer a higher-end version of stock that includes standard options of rollout trays and dovetail joints. Stock cabinets are the least expensive option.

Custom Cabinets

Custom cabinets are the best choice if you are not on a tight budget and if you do not have a fast-approaching time deadline. Unlike stock and semi-custom cabinets, custom cabinets are not constructed until you place your order. Material possibilities may seem endless, because you can also choose exotic woods and reclaimed wood. Cabinetmakers can paint or stain to your choice of material, to your specifications. Door profiles and design and storage options are also only limited by your budget and the cabinetmaker you choose. Some cabinetmakers can complete a modest cabinet order in as little as a few months, but be aware that it could take much longer.

It is important to note that while semi-custom cabinets are mass produced like stock cabinetry, if unique design features and upgraded materials are added to complete your look, production will take longer—which will delay installation into your home. Additionally, the more bells and whistles you add to your cabinet fronts and interiors, the higher the cost of your finished cabinets. In order to keep semi-custom cabinet costs down, you can choose standard-sized cabinets built in a moderately priced material and pick a unique color and upgraded hardware to add your personal style to your cabinets without adding too much cost.

Semi-custom cabinets really are the best option for homeowners looking for a little creative freedom and flexibility without spending the time and money on full customization. Modifications in door styles, interiors, hardware and accessories allow individualized looks with less lead-time than custom cabinets.

Trending: Quartz

As you will see more and more people are turning to Quartz countertops vs. Granite/Marble, but why you ask? Simple as stated previously:

“Quartz is a man made product which contains crushed quartz mixed with resin in a ratio of 93% quartz to 7% resin. They are manufactured in a variety of different patterns and colors.  Also, there are numerous suppliers for Quartz. Quartz a maintenance free product that is scratch and stain resistant. It is non-porous and does not require any sealing.”

This saves you time and money spent on getting your countertops sealed every 6 months- a year. You might be saying to yourself so why would any one get any other material to put in the kitchen? Sometimes the look of natural material is just unparalleled to that of Quartz so it really has to deal with what look you are trying to achieve with your kitchen. And some people are scared of price tags while changing up the look of their kitchen. Which is normal, but here’s the catch:

You spend lets say 2k on a Granite counter top as opposed to say 2.5k-3k on a Quartz. Did you really save however? Have you forgotten the maintenance that comes with owning a Granite countertop? The money spent in sealing it every so often as well as buying the proper cleaning products for it will eventually catch up to the Quartz countertop. (Even the marble-look Quartz colors)Screen Shot 2016-02-17 at 3.51.17 PMScreen Shot 2016-02-17 at 3.51.40 PMScreen Shot 2016-02-17 at 3.53.26 PM

I am not discouraging you from buying a Granite or Marble top simply because there is an upkeep to them. I must say the “natural” look of actually natural materials is beautiful and something Quartz only comes close to. What I am saying here is if you have young ones or if you just simply don’t want to worry about maintaining your kitchen then Quartz would be the way to go. There are so many different suppliers & different colors to choose from, think about it!

Exotic Materials

Although most of you are saying to yourselves “I don’t want to spend all that money on a kitchen!”, it just might be worth it. Let’s look at things realistically:

You renovate your home how often? Exactly! Once every 20 years!! If you are debating about price, my suggestion is take your time and really consider the expense. You do it one time and don’t have to do it again the next year. Make sure when considering a slab:

1. It’s the style & color you like.
2. If you have children you may want to look for Quartz rather than natural materials.
3. Make sure that the cost is efficient & effective.
4. Way out all your options before coming to a rash decision.

Complete Apartment Remodel

Did you just purchase a new apartment or are you considering purchasing an apartment that needs a facelift?  Why not considering a complete apartment remodel using a one stop shop.  Absolute Plus Kitchen & Granite will meet all your needs.  From space planning to designing, demolition to installation, we can do it all for you with ease and precision.  Why would you want to use 10 different subcontractors when all you need is Absolute Plus?

Here is our 8 Step Process to getting your renovation complete:

Step 1 – Consultation:

Following a brief telephone introduction call, we will schedule a ‘get acquainted’ meeting to discuss ideas, details of the work to be performed, as well as review potential design options for your apartment or home renovation. A personal meeting is very important to our process. This allows us as your remodeling contractor to work accurately with you on design and budget until you are satisfied with the scope of the project.

Step 2 – Budgeting

At Absolute Plus we’re not in the business of sending out estimates that we know will get us the job, we’re in the business of getting you an accurate estimate for what your project will cost to be done RIGHT, by licensed and experienced craftsmen. At Absolute Plus “good” just isn’t good enough. Consequently, we deliver impeccable results, sure to increase the value of your home and the quality of your life, hassle free, at a price point very much within the regional industry average.

Step 3 – Proposal and Design

When you are confident that we may provide you with what you are looking for, a proposal with the design will be developed and presented. At Absolute Plus, we provide accurate prices from the outset – another example of our open communication procedures. At this time, we will now review your detailed estimate, answer any questions you may have about the proposal and note any changes you may have to the proposed remodeling or construction project. Once a contract has been agreed upon, the pre-construction process will take place.

Step 4 – Pre-Costruction

Once plans are drawn and approved and a thorough scope of work, firm cost, and length of project are prepared, we’re ready to get to work! All our projects are carefully planned, scheduled, and financially managed in order to complete each one on time and on budget. With that pre-construction work underway including finalizing plans and obtaining building permits, your home or office renovation or new build project is well on its way to becoming a reality!

Step 5 – Site Preparation and Protection

Before the actual construction work begins, we will take measures to cover and protect certain areas of your home or commercial job site that adjoin the work area in order to keep them as dust and scratch free as possible throughout the project.

Step 6 – Let’s Get to Work

Once work is underway, we’ll begin a new chapter in our relationship. It is during the first phase that demolition is taking place and you’ll be excited as you see changes daily. Now you will finally see work of our licensed craftsman and what they are made of. Absolute Plus is still very much a father and son team that know that we’re only as good as our last job. Advertising in Architectural magazines is expensive, we believe that it’s far more cost effective and stress free to simply focus on making sure that every single project will deliver us referrals and down the line, repeat business. Our team is comprised of every conceivable artisan necessary for every type of home remodeling project, which means that your project will be completed on time, within your budget and without worry.

Step 7 – Weekly Meetings

On most projects, there will be a weekly meeting set up. This creates the opportunity to discuss decisions to be made, unforeseen complications and generally check in with each other to discuss how things are going. Once the project is underway, any change to the scope of work must be documented and approved in a change order. We don’t present surprise bills for extra work at the end of the project. Because we try to be as thorough as possible when putting our renovation proposal together, change orders are usually caused by one of three events: hidden conditions, builder inspector requests, or client changes to the original proposal.

Step 8 – Project Completion

While the final finishes are being installed, you’ll begin to really get excited about living in and using your brand new space! All during the home or office construction or renovation we keep the site as neat and clean as possible. At the last day of project, the entire work area will be professionally cleaned.

Granite versus Quartz

Granite, quartzite, marble, quartz are these all the same thing? If this is a question you often ask yourself continue to read on to enlighten yourself with the difference between the three.

Granite, a natural material is an igneous rock with grains large enough to be visible with the unaided eye.  It forms from the slow crystallization of magma below Earth’s surface.  Granite is composed mainly of quartz and feldspar with minor amounts of mica, amphiboles and other minerals. This mineral composition usually gives granite a red, pink, gray or white color with dark mineral grains visible throughout the rock.

Granite countertops will need to be sealed before they are used and this will need to be repeated year after year for as long as you own the countertop. Granite is a porous stone and can only be considered to be stain-resistant if it has been sealed properly.

Quartz is a man made product which contains crushed quartz mixed with resin in a ratio of 93% quartz to 7% resin. They are manufactured in a variety of different patterns and colors.  Quartz a maintenance free product that is scratch and stain resistant. It is non-porous and does not require any sealing.

Both are great options for new countertops.  want to see samples of each? Stop by our showroom to see them in person.
